Municipal dump, Oaxaca, Mexico 1998 - A girl cries from fear while her older sister yells directions. Months of the family's work is lost as the scavenged materials they collected from the dump go up in flames during a spontaneous dump fire...In the municipal dump a self governed group of 80 individuals and families eke out a living. Los Pepenadors (the Pickers) work in a landscape of garbage and flames, blanketed by toxic smoke, along side bulldozers and garbage trucks. They do the impossible job of recycling what the rest of their society can't be bothered to deal with. ..
